Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino announced all school and early childhood staff including teachers, support staff, and cleaners would need to be first-dose vaccinated by October 18 and double-vaccinated by November 29.

He said priority access would not be given to school staff to receive a vaccine because there was "plenty of capacity" for everyone who wanted a vaccine to book one in.

The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria’s acting executive director, Paul Sharkey, supported the announcement, telling The Age that the safety of students and staff was the highest priority for Catholic schools.

Mr Merlino also announced a $190 million package for Victorian schools, which will provide thousands of air ventilators to the state's classrooms.

Of the $190 million, $125 million will be used to deliver 51,000 air purification devices to all government schools and low-fee Catholic and independent schools in Victoria.

The first load will be flown in next week, Mr Merlino said.
