Masses to mark Domestic Violence Remembrance Day

A rememberance Mass will be held at St Benedict’s Church at the University of Notre Dame’s Broadway campus (UNDA)

The University of Notre Dame Australia will today hold special Remembrance Masses in Sydney and Fremantle to mark National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day.

May is Domestic Violence Prevention Month, and the university’s chaplaincy team along with its respect officers have organised the Mass as a way to remember those who have lost their lives and all those who continue to be impacted by family and domestic violence.

The day also provides an opportunity to reflect, show solidarity, and consider how we can support people who are affected by family and domestic violence.

In Sydney, Mass will be at 12.35pm at St Benedict’s Church at the university's Broadway Campus. In Fremantle, Mass will be held at 12.35pm (AWST) at the Holy Spirit Chapel at its Fremantle campus.

The university’s respect officers, Rachel Fuller and Charlotte Armstrong, have also organised a collection for agencies that provide support to those impacted by family and domestic violence. Throughout May, the university will collect women’s winter pyjamas and cleaning products to support women and families living in emergency accommodation and also transitioning to safe housing.

Everything collected in Sydney will be donated to Mudgin-Gal Women’s Place, an organisation that provides support for Aboriginal women and families. In Fremantle, donations will go to Zonta House Refuge Association, a specialist service that provides relief and support to women who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, family and domestic violence.
