Will WYD change Australian Catholicism? Personally, I doubt it. It will do nothing to confront the deep seated problems that Australian Catholicism faces. Fundamental structural change doesn't happen through big events but through deep reflection, careful planning and, above all, through creative and inspirational leadership.
There is a great strength to WYD. It brings together young people from all over the world and it breaks down the narrow parochialism that divides people.
