Opinion - Understanding the Pope's "Marshall Plan"

If the hallmark of John Paul II's pontificate was his contribution to the collapse of communism, the incumbent Pope has set himself and his successors an even larger and, for many observers, a more improbable goal - nothing less than the re-conversion of the West. In some quarters this is referred to as his Marshall Plan, a cultural strategy for re-engaging the disaffected.
