The Sisters of the Good Samaritan are seeking to employ a full time Spirituality and Mission Animation Leader in this newly created role.
About the Organisation
When Archbishop John Bede Polding founded the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in 1857, he chose this name because he firmly believed that their work was about being neighbour to the poor and destitute women and children of Sydney. For over 160 years the Sisters of the Good Samaritan have been inspired by a simple yet powerful story, the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37.) They take as a living instruction Jesus’ command to go and ‘be neighbour’ to those most in need.
Our neighbour might be an impoverished child from a squatter village in the Philippines, a prisoner in Melbourne, a child at school, a refugee family, a single mum at risk of homelessness or a woman escaping a home afflicted by family violence. The sisters reach out to help wherever they can.
The Sisters of the Good Samaritan draw further inspiration from the Rule of Benedict, a spiritual treasure dating from the sixth century. Though originally written for a group of monks, the Rule contains lessons for all contemporary people; lessons about mercy and humility, about hospitality, caring and welcome. The Rule is intended for those who seek peace. It speaks about acceptance, compassion and commitment to prayer and work.
Primary Purpose of the Role
The aims of this role are to facilitate:
- the adult faith journey in the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition for all Good Samaritans including Sisters, partners in ministry and those that seek to journey with us in the wider community
- the continuing development of the wider Good Samaritan Benedictine community of faith
Key responsibilities of the Role
- Application and implementation of the Good Samaritan Life Ongoing Formation Framework
- Coordination, development and delivery of targeted formation opportunities/ programs for Congregation Members, staff and the wider Good Samaritan community
- Formation for Boards of Good Samaritan incorporated companies and committees
- Oversight of small Congregational library
- Coordination of Prayer and (nominated) liturgical events
- Development of Website and associated Apps
- Development of Online Community
- Sourcing content and writing of resources (online and other)
- Promote and implement advocacy and justice programs
- Develop and implement a process to assess/ determine effectiveness of formation experiences and resources
- Oversee budget preparation and accountability for good stewardship of resources within budget
- Appreciation for, and demonstrated alignment with, the life and mission, spirituality and ethos of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan
- Understanding of, and respect for, the teachings of the Catholic Church
- A commitment to development of their own faith life
- Tertiary qualifications in Theology, Education or other relevant field
- Experience in the areas of adult Faith Formation and Theological Reflection
- Leadership experience with an ability to engage, inspire and facilitate formation experiences
- Ability to manage staff
- Experience in developing formation resources in a variety of formats
- Experience with the Good Samaritan Benedictine Tradition
- Experience in developing online communities
- Experience in developing digital resources, websites or apps
- Involvement in Catholic social justice or advocacy programs
- Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a NSW Working with Children Check.
- Applicants must hold or be willing to undertake a National Police Check
Due to the nature of the role, flexible working arrangements can be negotiated with the successful applicant. On occasion some weekend and after hours work may be required.
